Shirley

04-07-2020

This week Filmsuck tackles Hulu movie Shirley, which was inspired by events in the life of legendary, witchy author Shirley Jackson (“The Lottery,” The Haunting of Hill House, We Have Always Lived in the Castle). Eileen interviews Dolores McElroy, a lecturer in the Film & Media Department of UC Berkeley, and Asali Echols, Bay Area filmmaker and editor, on this critically praised psychodrama that imposes the plot structure of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on the tormented marriage of Jackson (Elizabeth Moss) and academic literary critic Stanley Hyman (Michael Stuhlbarg).
